COMPETITIVE RESEARCH
I analysed established coaching and team-management platforms to understand how they structure coach–player communication, workouts, progress, scheduling and team administration. The aim was to identify conventions worth retaining, areas of friction and opportunities for CoachClock to provide a clearer and more contemporary experience.
FOCUS AREAS
How quickly coaches and players can understand where they are, locate core features and move between high-priority tasks.
How messaging, posts, alerts and feedback support an ongoing two-way relationship between coaches, players and teams.
How workouts, exercise guidance, completion, performance data and progress are presented and recorded during everyday use.
How competitors manage rosters, groups, appointments, games and events without creating unnecessary complexity.
INTERACTIVE BENCHMARK
Use the arrows and scroll controls inside the prototype to move through TrueCoach, TeamBuildr, TeamSnap and Trainerize, including the annotated pros, cons and opportunities identified during the study.
COMPETITOR TAKEAWAYS
Strong coach–client communication, event feedback and workout interaction make the relationship feel central to the product. Some workout and community screens become text-heavy, making information more difficult to scan quickly.
Deep workout logging, exercise history, personal records and video guidance create a powerful performance platform. Its depth can also make the interface feel dense and demanding for new users.
Roster management, scheduling and communication are clear strengths, with particularly useful empty states and onboarding actions. Some event forms and supporting content feel separate from the core team workflow.
Polished onboarding, client insights, groups, challenges and flexible messaging create a strong engagement system. Progress and calendar information could be more visual and quicker to navigate.
COACHCLOCK OPPORTUNITY
The benchmarking showed that established competitors often prioritise functionality over visual simplicity. Platforms such as TeamBuildr, TeamSnap and Trainerize offer extensive feature depth, but their interfaces can become dense, inconsistent or heavily text based as functionality grows.
This highlighted an opportunity for CoachClock to combine comprehensive coach and player functionality with a more contemporary, consistent and visually engaging interface. Clear hierarchy, focused use of colour and progressive disclosure became important principles for keeping complex coaching workflows understandable on mobile.
